One to One

Helping Children Make Sense Of Things

A simple, supportive process that helps children feel understood, build confidence, and make lasting change.

Head

Understanding what’s going on I take time to understand your child, their experiences, and what may be driving their thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

Heart

Building connection and emotional safety I create a safe space where children feel heard, understood and accepted.

Soul

Growing confidence and lasting change I introduce practical, personalised tools to help your child feel more confident and resilient.

When I work one-to-one with children, connection and rapport are always the priority. I want your child to feel like the centre of the universe in our sessions; safe, comfortable, and completely at ease with me.

When children feel relaxed, understood and happy, they are far more likely to open up, think more clearly, and begin to find their own solutions.

How It Works

The process usually begins with a phone call with parents or carers, where we talk through your child’s needs and what you’re hoping for from coaching.

From there, we arrange an initial session with your child, which gives them a chance to:

  • Meet me and experience coaching first-hand
  • Decide whether they feel comfortable working with me
  • Explore whether coaching feels like the right fit for them

If we all feel it’s a good match, parents typically book a block of four weekly sessions to begin with, followed by a review to decide on next steps.

What I prioritise most is connection first. When children feel safe, understood and relaxed, real change becomes possible.

In my sessions, I aim to create a space where your child feels comfortable and accepted, genuinely heard and free from judgement or pressure. From that place of safety, they are more able to settle, think clearly and begin to explore their own thoughts, feelings and possible solutions.

Rather than focusing on ‘fixing a problem,’ I see and support your child as a whole person – helping them feel understood, more confident in themselves, and better able to navigate what they’re going through.

Ongoing Support For Parents

You are kept in the loop throughout. I provide feedback after each session, so you can understand what we’ve worked on, how your child is progressing and anything you can do to support them between sessions.

Parent coaching sessions are also available and can be a helpful addition if you would like to better understand your child’s needs, feel supported alongside their coaching, or are navigating specific challenges at home or in relation to school. These sessions offer space to explore what’s going on from your perspective and consider ways forward that feel practical and supportive for your family.

What 1:1 coaching is

1:1 coaching gives your child a safe, supportive space to explore what they’re feeling, understand themselves better, and build practical ways to cope with challenges at home, school and in everyday life.

It is not therapy or tutoring – it is a forward-focused, practical approach that helps children feel more confident, calm and in control of themselves.

Why Families Come For Coaching

Every child is different, and there’s no single reason families come for coaching. Often, it’s simply that something doesn’t feel quite right, and you’d like a supportive space for your child to talk, explore what’s going on, and build more confidence and understanding.

Below are some of the more common reasons families reach out:

  • Anxiety, worry and overthinking
  • Confidence and self-belief
  • Emotional regulation (big feelings, anger, overwhelm)
  • School-related stress or school avoidance
  • Friendship and social challenges
  • Motivation, focus and organisation
  • Building resilience and coping skills
  • Understanding thoughts and feelings more clearly

This coaching may be helpful if your child is finding things a little overwhelming - whether that’s emotions, confidence, anxiety, school pressure, or navigating big changes. It offers a supportive space for them to talk, explore what’s going on, and gently build confidence and emotional understanding. If you’re unsure, an initial chat can help us decide together.

Kind words from clients

We were very concerned about our daughter and had tried many avenues of help and support but Tess was recommended to us through school and we have been very impressed with her work. She easily connected with our daughter and through their sessions, we have noticed the transformation in our daughter’s ability to navigate the challenges and negative thoughts facing her. Tess also offered support to us as parents throughout the coaching process and this has been invaluable. With a few pertinent questions and a nudge in the right direction from Tess, we were able to make tweaks and changes to our routine that has helped the situation for our daughter overall.

Tess is an outstanding coach for my 11-year-old son. She has built an excellent rapport with him and he really looks forward to their sessions. Tess makes him feel heard and understood and their work together has undoubtedly made a difference for him – choosing how he reacts to the situations that have been creating anxiety for him. Tess uses simple models and methods to explain her approach to him and he enjoys relaying these back to me. Tess’s follow up is second to none – her emails post session are hugely insightful and thorough and form a kind of workbook of support for my son which is proving incredibly valuable for me to refer to with him. Tess’s skills would be valuable to pretty much all the parents and children I know who are struggling to develop a sense of resilience.
